10 Inch Subwoofer Box – Volume, Port & Plans

A 10-inch subwoofer is fast, accurate and compact — the right choice when trunk space is limited and bass quality matters more than sheer output.

Recommended volume

  • Sealed box: 20–35 litres net. Very tight bass in a small box, often under 50 cm wide.
  • Ported box: 30–50 litres net. Noticeably more low end without the box becoming huge.

Two 10″ drivers in one box are often a better solution than a single 12″ when the trunk floor is low: you gain cone area with a shallower enclosure.

Port tuning and size

Tune most 10″ ported boxes to 32–36 Hz for full, musical bass, or 30–32 Hz for a deeper sound if the driver allows it. A port area of roughly 150–300 cm² is enough — for example a 6–8 cm slot about 30–35 cm tall, or a single 10 cm round port in smaller boxes.

Example dimensions

A 40-litre net ported box for one 10″ driver is roughly 600 × 350 × 320 mm outside in 18 mm MDF. A 28-litre sealed version shrinks to about 450 × 350 × 280 mm and fits even small hatchbacks.
