How to choose a box size

Tight, accurate and musical bass. Smaller volume, easier to fit and gentler on the driver at high power. Great for rock, pop and everyday listening.

Louder and deeper bass around the tuning frequency (usually 30–35 Hz). Needs more volume and a precise port, but delivers noticeably more low end from the same driver.

Every driver has a recommended net volume in litres. Too small makes the bass short and stiff; too large loses control. Our calculator computes net volume automatically — including driver displacement, the port and the braces.

For boxes up to ~70 litres and moderate power, 18 mm MDF is perfectly adequate. For powerful systems (1000+ W RMS) or large unsupported panels choose 22 mm — heavier, but with less vibration and resonance. Thickness is automatically factored into the volume and cut list.

Large flat panels vibrate with strong bass and colour the sound. The built-in brace ties opposite walls together and makes the box much stiffer. The calculator adds it automatically on larger boxes and subtracts it from the net volume, so tuning stays accurate.

For hip-hop, trap and dubstep — 28 – 32 Hz. For house, EDM and pop-folk — 32 – 36 Hz. For rock and mixed music a sealed box or 35 – 40 Hz tuning gives a faster bass. Lower tuning needs a longer port at the same volume.

The price depends on the board area (size and number of drivers), the finish and labour. A ported box costs slightly more than a sealed one of the same size because it includes extra panels for the port. You see the exact price instantly in the calculator — in euros, no hidden fees.
